Recommendations for a new SoCal Daily Driver

Postby Bearx2 » Mon May 08, 2023 6:44 pm

I'm looking for a daily-driver that can go in just about anything from knee high to 1 ft. overhead;I also want it to be a decent/ok paddler with some good volume on it.

I'm kinda leaning towards a Sharpeye HT2 or a Timmy Patterson Synthetic 84.

What is your ability level man? What a pro needs from 1ft overhead to knee high is different to an intermediate, etc.

I would say I'm about intermediate and am looking for a board that can tun tight in the pocket, but still also has hold and drive to glide through flat sections.

How about the current flavor of the month, the Twin Pin ?

Oldie but a goodie, CI Pod. I have it in two different sizes, each with a round tail which works well here. Ticks all the boxes of what you’re looking for.

For something that does better in slightly better waves with an outline similar to what you are interested in could be a phantom. I had one, liked it but was a little too big so I let it go. Am looking for another one. Wide point a little forward and lower rocker makes paddling in easy.

In socal I would assume there would be no shortage of local shapers, they will know better than anyone else, plus you would be helping a local business rather than paying massive surfboard brands to which your purchase changes almost nothing, since half the surfing world rides CIs, losts, pyzels etc etc

Hey Bearx2,

When it comes to finding a new SoCal daily driver that can handle a variety of conditions, there are a few key factors to consider. Look for a board with a versatile design that excels in a range of wave sizes, from knee high to 1 ft. overhead. You'll want a board with good paddling ability, so prioritize models with sufficient volume to provide a decent/ok paddling experience.

To find your ideal daily driver, check out local surf shops or browse online platforms that offer a wide selection of surfboards. Look for board descriptions that mention versatility, wave range suitability, and ample volume. Keep in mind your own skill level and preferences as you compare different models.

Enjoy the SoCal waves!

Best regards,
Alex from the surf skate OEM factory
