Rolling beachbreak with occasional good peaks and long rides. Best on medium incoming tide. Beachfront houses are available to rent for a lot less than in San Juan del Sur and the Popoyo (Rivas) areas, plus some inexpensive hotels and hostals, most are right on the beach.
Small fishing village, very few tourist . Boats to rent for surfing secret spots.

Easy to get to from the capital city of Managua, about one hour on paved roads. Buses run daily from the Israel Lewites market in Managua.
http://www.casalarocque.com is a good choice but look into renting a house for a week or a month! http://www.elportonverde.com/beach-house-rentals-in-nicaragua/casa-ayers-in-pochomil/
Plenty of parking and there is a charge to enter the Balneario Pochomil although you can drive a bit further south to avoid the (moderate) fee.
A couple of local guys have some boards to rent but don't expect too much, best to bring your own boards or if you'll be in Nicaragua for awhile, buy in SJdS and sell again at the end of the your stay.
The fishing village has a few bars & places to go dancing and restaurants/hotels if you want to relax by a swimming pool. Great seafood!
