Information about East Anglia
East Anglia Surfing
East Anglia is the bit that sticks out on the east coast of England. For surf coast purposes it consists of Norfolk, Suffolk and some of Essex. The main cities are Norwich in Norfolk and Ipswich in Suffolk. The coastline stretches from the Wash near Kings Lynn in the north round to Folkstone.
Popular tourist destinations include Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads.
East Anglia Surfing Info and Details
The main source of swell for East Anglia comes from North or North Westerly swells from the low pressures above Scandinavia. Good ground swells are most likely to occur from October to March.
The main swells in the area are from local windswell and are short lived. The water around the coast here looks pretty miserable due to the silt sea bed - producing what looks like a brown sludge. However, the water quality in this area is generally good.
Don't expect any real size - it rarely gets about 4 feet here. The shallow sea floor takes most of the punch out of the waves.
Surf Equipment Required for the Waves in East Anglia
Bring a small wave board / longer board. Temperatures can get pretty cold in the winter so a 5/3 wetsuit is recommended with boots and a hood. The wind from off the North Sea can be brutal.
