Full disclosure: I am a beginner (maybe intermediate?) surfer. This video is to talk about options and what could've been done better. I just happened to get these two on film when I as out with my camera filming some other friends actually. I am playing armchair quarterback to try to learn what I could do if I was in that situation.
(Dont worry- Me and the wavestorm will be on video in no time, in my full kook-glory.
Surfer #1 -I think this guy could've had slightly bigger turns overall. I think his initial bottom turn couldve been a tad lower in the wave, to really allow him to move up and down the face of the wave with subsequent turns. Maybe that turn would've killed off all of his speed, I don't know for sure (maybe he would've missed the next section-which tried to close out on him).
Personally, I would've tried for a more acute top turn as well (turn down the face of the wave). I think his speed was good during the wave, but those small turns were a tad underwhelming. I think his bottom turn for his kickout was nice (and would've been good to see a turn like that earlier in the wave).
As for shiela, overall I think the ride was a tad slow. I think she could have possibly trimmed forward to build more speed. I missed the drop/bottom turn because I was filming the other guy. Pausing the video, you can see her trail. Assuming from the trail, I would also say she may have been able to build speed by taking off at less of an angle and carving a bottom turn. I thought he weight was a bit too far back, which may have caused some speed problems. I also think she was a bit too low on the face of the wave overall. and maybe could've/should've tried to kick out.
