Waves Surfed

Gould’s Inlet
Description:

The inlet provides many sandbars that can get quite good. From the parking lot go straight out and surf the shifting bars. The breaks will change as the tide fills in. Plan to arrive about two hours prior to high tide. The break is very tidal dependent. A 6’ tide will work completely different from a 8/9’ tide. Long boards work great as do Fish. Experienced Surfers can score good rides on short boards. Mid tides check the area just south of the inlet. On certain tides the inside lines up very nice. Then follow the break as it shifts further north. Early outgoing tide can also provide fun rides. As with any break it might not look great from the beach but you will be surprised once you paddle out. The water is environmentally productive so watch out for critters between sets. Rated the inlet a 3 with local knowledge. Plus the fun factor. Beginners ok but watch the tide change as it can get swift. Lots have drowned on Georgias “safe” beaches. A tide change covers the bars pretty fast. Summer brings a large beach crowd and very active shark fishing from the beach with lines running into the lineups.

Myrtle Street
Description:

Changeable spot due to shifting sand bottom. Incoming tide break that is a go to spot when the winds are hard from the North/North East. When the east facing breaks are out of control Myrtle will be offshore. Well protected, the waves can get fun under those conditions. On mid period swells the place can get fun also. Always worth a check, surprises happen. The break faces the ship channel and the waves come in from deep water with the tide. Under NE conditions the current is very swift so plan to paddle a lot. When the tide peaks the current will pause before changing flow. That is the best window. Easy break to access.
