for a skinny flesher i seem to have a nice lil' belly onboard bro ?! .. guess i lost all the muscle weight from my legs and arms and it turned to flubber around my waist a couple of years back

I had a good night hitting the circuit and gotta say that compared to any other gym or trainer ive ever had .. this dude is a fleshing star !

" im fleshing lovin it !!!!

just gotta try and stick to this diet (within reason) and then i'll be back to the happier, fitter duder i once were  cause last week was a fleshing embarrasment in Devon  and i reckon if i get a lil' more in shape i'll want to hit the water far more often than i have in the last few years .. Aye, stay on clip with the diet; after a month or so it gets really easy to follow as the cravings for crap food begin to die out!

18% BF isn't the end of the world, you can loose on average about a pound or 2 of bodyfat with a decent diet and abit of cardio.

It's definitely worth it in the end! :)

Orange juice for you at the SW meet this month! haha!

Seriously CheeZee good on ya for properly sorting it out, I've been there before - when it sucks so bad cos you're not surf fit and you get so knackered you feel sick in the water, and the worst part is that you then know how far you've fallen. But I've experienced this 'muscle memory' thing where it doesn't take too much to get back to where your body was before so I reckon you'll be alright pretty quickly, and as far as the surf-fit part goes that only takes a solid week of surf every day to get back up to to where you were surf-wise (-ish!).

Wierd but whenever I've got way out of shape before, I set myself a goal of something not much short of perfection but then as things slowly improve I realise I don't need to go as far and settle for way less than planned :? . Am I just being lazy and thats my subconciousness blagging my way out of continuing with all the hard work? :P

Good work Cheezee, 1 question....why dont you start kickboxing again? seemed to work in the past and you obviously havent lost it?

Dont want to highjack the thread or anything but.....

what do you do if the muscle memory isnt there? Ive started cycling into work again (5.5 miles each way - not far I know  ) a few days a week and running (never thought I would do that again) at lunch time when i havent cycled (I mean jog for a bit then get tired and then walk, then jog etc). I want to get fit and at the moment my motivation is fairly high - extra flab, always does the trick  but I want to get fit, not just thin again whilst still enjoying the odd cheeky beer and crappy food.

I dont have the muscle memory of someone who was fit and strong, just someone who was thin from all night clubbing, but I want to be strong and fit with stamina now. I know it will be hard work to build it up. So far from doing yoga I seem to have avioded the injuries I sustained previously from exercise. Enjoyment seems to be key and I hate the gym with a passion -no matter how hard I trained I never saw the results, injury usualy kept me out... bad personal trainers

Please dont tell me the answer is grit your teeth and get on with it. If someone doesnt havent the 'muscle memory' of a healthy, strong, fit person, is it actually possible to change all that at 25 yrs old whilst working a 60 hour week?? What does it take? - Ive basicly sat on my arse for the last 10 years and not much else, apart from working in an office whilst sat on my arse.

Many thanks Broos' for the motivational and inspirational post bro ( seriously) :D

and Sar' .. the same as you darhlin lol .. when i was skinny it was mainly due to dancing my ass off every weekend and then some  .

There is a few reasons to why i wont re-start my kickboxing ! .. there is only one dedicated dojo in town and my old sensei has hiked the prices up so much that i cannot justify the cost anymore. But the main reason i wont return is that ( and i do mean this in all spiritual grasshopper stylee!) ..i basically lost respect for our sensei (through his own doing) and i will not fight and get battered for someones name when that name does not deserve my respect in battle yadda yadda (told ya .. grasshopper stuff huh lol). And then there is the simple physical/age reasons for not returning ! .. if you hit me with sledgehammer hands these days, it takes me a hell of a lot longer to recover than it used to and i cant afford to take time off of work now that im self-employed lolol

I have renewed links with the other rogue members that left around the same time as i did ( they still train and compete at a high level) and i have agreed that if i get back to a reasonable state of fittness, that we would all go down to our old dojo and throw down the gauntlet to our old sensei in a proper manner befitting old skool martial arts ethics! ..youve all seen it in the films  .. the returning warriors offering battle to the evil sensei lmao

Its a shame cause the club used to have a solid name in the martial arts world, and has at least 10 world champions and 12 UK champions to its name but sensei started to flesh around with the female students and that is not an honourable thing to do when his poor wife had to put on a brave face through it all and continue to train with us, knowing that we all knew what was happening ..bless her

...So i ditched the gloves and gum sheild and found a mini-mal and then began a more subtle, soulful battle with mother nature .. shes still kicking my ass and i love her for it lolol

My colleague rows for the Scotland team, you should see the amount of crap he stuffs in his mouth!

I know nothing of these things as I am naturally "slim", but I see what you mean about bulking up, then giving up and it all turning to fat.

Na, that is a common misconception.

Muscle does not turn to fat if you give up exercising. They are two different tissue types.

Muscle will waste and wither away, but it won't turn to fat. The fat will only start to go on around the belly and love handles, and then any other place it can find, if the calorie intake exceeds the calories burnt during each day.

The best exercise for surfing, is er.... more surfing.

Nearly every local surfer where I am at the mo, and the place is packed every day, is very very slim with very well defined, but not big, muscles.

I weigh 72kg, I'm 5'8". So I'm shorter than you, I weight nearly the same as you, and I look like this:

If you're two inches taller than me and the same weight, sounds like you could do with putting on a few pounds. (Although muscle does weigh a lot more than fat :D )
