Um, job?

Actually....no. Not really. My wife and I have been fairly blessed and lucky and we have some savings that have done better than expected. Soooo, right now we are just going to live on that.
But, I will be doing some land and real estate deals, buying property, fixing it up, trying to sell it to a padded N. American. :D I have a couple I am in the process of fixing up right now, we'll see how it goes. Just trying to help do my part to sell all of paradise away to the other gringos

Either NZ or OZ this november. As soon as I get my CC paid off I will feel better about it, but ya. I hope to get a hook up for a job from a family I know that lives in Sydney.

know what you mean about who you meet along the way libs, that's why I have decided to stop dating after splitting up with the ex, who didn't want to make the move (the crazy woman!). It's focus focus, but that kind of means my life is on hold til i manage to make it there.. which ain't so good. Well, it'll be worth it, I just hope it doesn't take too long.

Moved to NZ nearly 2 years ago from NW England.

Top move, miss some mates/family but thats all.

My opinion, if you fancy it give it a go, you can always go back.

Dont mean to bring your dream down to earth (but I hoped this thread would be used for visa questions and stuff as well as just dreaming!) but cousins dont count as close family for australian immigration. Its only spouse (or de facto spouse)/parent/child.

And even if you have relatives, a job, etc etc... you STILL have to go through the immigration red tape

If you are a canadian citizen and under the age of 25 you can get a 2-year work visa to live in Australia. After that 2 years if you have a job still you can renew it for a permanent one. (at least that was the rule 10 years ago when I looked at moving there)
I think that all british commonwealth countries have that agreement with Oz. Might want to check that out.

Australian visas are a nightmare
Ive got the advice book on the desk next to me, and I still dont understand most of it.... :?

As I understand it, you're basically right. BUT after the two years, you dont 'renew' for a permanent one, you 'apply' for a permanent one. The work experience in australia is worth quite a lot of points, but still no guarentee of getting in. It'll come down to what job you're doing and whether its on their wish-list. If you've spent two years bumming around doing bar jobs, then you probably will not have your visa renewed.

" gutted .. bubble popped :( ..lol.. naaaa .. i guessed it wouldnt be as straight forward as i hoped, but at least my cousin can say that im a business partner and then i wont have the job and cash thing to worry about. And if i head to his neck of the woods (NW territory) then there is a good chance i can get on a housing scheme in one of the areas that the local government is trying to get new blood into  8)

either way ... as soon as my best bud gets over to Brizzy permanent (next year) then i shall be over for at least two months of every year

Just htought i'd pop a couple of links up, the official NZ site, & OZ site.

NZ
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/

OZ
http://www.immi.gov.au/immigration.htm

Might help to answer some questions, plus they have the official and up to date skills shortage lists.
