I've finally bought a digital camera...**pic's now added!**

I took the plunge and finally bought a digital camera. I opened the box and spent 2 hours reading the manual. I haven't even tried to use the thing yet. I have no idea how. It's so complicated. Why can't you just press a button and take a picture?

I'm wondering whether I should just take it right back to the shop. I mean, the quick start/ setup is about 10 pages long and uses lots of very big words that I don't understand

I feel so out of date with technology. I can't believe a camera can be so complicated.

UPDATE... i opened the box, pointed and pressed. I think I've got the basics now  will take me ages to figure it all out though. I was going to upload my pics but they are not jpeg so I can't. Anyone know how to change them from bmp????

What kind is it? Point-n-shoot? Digital SLR?

They're pretty easy to use usually, a point and shoot you turn on to usually the green box and push the button. A D-SLR you can pretty much do the same but you gotta tap the auto-focus, which is super simple.

Been there done that, with multiple digital cameras, most have an auto mode where it does everything for you, and other setting choices that will choose the best options for a particular type of photo-- sports/action, portrait, lanscape (stuff far away), night time, so you don't have to worry about figuring out the settings, which is what I usually do. Digital cameras will never be really simple, just try taking the same picture with multiple settings and see which one comes out the best, and no film is wasted.

point and shoots are awful. keep it. maybe if its complicated that means it can do a lot? most cameras are easy. green box=automatic. m= manual s= shutter, etc..
