Oh of course, yeah.
But the problem with the USA is that it is so insular. Pretty much everyone in the UK has a passport, and has travelled at least as far as mainland europe, and most a lot further than that. While in the USA, a ridiculously high percentage of people have never been out the US.
I got talking to some girls (who were at college) on the beach one day in Ocean city...
Them: Where are you from?
Me: London
Them: Which state's that in?
Me: Er, no, London, England.
Them: Yeah, well, I knooooow thaaaat.... but which state is it in?![]()
Followed up a little while later with "Do you have TV? And electricity and stuff?"
