Oh yeah, I think reading over the fin key question is the TRUE reason people don't like America--

we won't get rid of English/imperial units!!

Rolling over the belt, but not below the belt, it's completely true....

I guess it was just implied.....I completely agree

What's the point of me trying to start trouble if you're gonna be all agreeable?

Ive travelled around a lot of the USA, and have to admit that I didnt like most of it (not all of it, there were exceptions) and found it hard to respect a lot of the people (ditto), but some of them make me laugh out loud at work - we have to get Tomcat over for a SW meet!

I quite liked IHOP's. And Disney land.

Mind you, on the grand scheme of cultural achievements a passable pancake resteraunt and some rollercoasters doesn't quite cut the mustard.

Almost everywhere, except the 'top-middle'. I hitched from new york, through west virginia and down to Tennessee (sp?), then new orleans and to texas (now there's a place I cant stand), up to new mexico, then over to colorado (I liked colorado), then california (I liked bits of california), then flew around on a plane for a few weeks going to all the bits I'd missed.

I met a lot of people - some of them fantastic, and a lot of weirdos (gay truck drivers - there's more of them than you'd think). But thats hitchhiking - and Im not judging all of the USA by the weirdos you meet on the street, I spent weeks at a time in new york (ooh, liked there too), ocean city, san francisco etc etc.

Still cant see the point of Delaware.

I have some very close and good American friends, who you wouldn't class as typical Americans I guess.

I've been over to America once on holiday, the typical Florida trip and a cruise. Hoping to go to North Carolina later this year.

I met some amazing characters, especially in New Orleans and some complete wasters, but it's the same where ever you travel too.

And there you go. Every country has its Douche Bags.....Though the US is so public with everything, that you see them alot. I bet if you tried hard enough you would find alot of retards, and bigots, and racists, and the such in the British Isles too. Just pointing out that they are everywhere......

Though alot of them from the US are silly enough to go public with alot of these view points, getting media coverage. Thus painting the US as such.

Oh, and ya, we get the same problem here in Canada, the overweight problem. People are just plain lazy. I think there needs to be radical social change to effect any kind of change. I am only 22, and I seem to understand this. I dont know why people that are older (and supposed to be wiser then me), eat like crap, dont exercise, and drive EVERYWHERE!! I know people that will drive like 3 or 4 blocks(like 3-400m), instead of walking.....

Oh of course, yeah.

But the problem with the USA is that it is so insular. Pretty much everyone in the UK has a passport, and has travelled at least as far as mainland europe, and most a lot further than that. While in the USA, a ridiculously high percentage of people have never been out the US.

I got talking to some girls (who were at college) on the beach one day in Ocean city...
Them: Where are you from?
Me: London
Them: Which state's that in?
Me: Er, no, London, England.
Them: Yeah, well, I knooooow thaaaat.... but which state is it in?

Followed up a little while later with "Do you have TV? And electricity and stuff?"

It's the first state...what are you gonna do?

I think that whole pennisula should be one state. The Maryland and Virginia parts (especially VA) kinda get neglected by the rest of their state.

Yeah, the eastern shore is completely ignored....however I think they almost like it. They are all very to them selves and don't particurally like "foreginers" and none of it is really that populated....I'd love to live there though.

Libby----thanks, I guess?

English relatives wayyyy far back. As in like 1600s. Been here since. I'm just rather objected to what is considered "american"

And I think people see American douchebags more than other countries because they are louder

Deleware.....I guess it's just kinda there? Kinda like Idaho....well, at least the have potatoes...

I worked in Colorado for 4 months whilst I was at uni (beautiful state by the way!). One guy asked me where I was from so I said London (which was easier than a little town about an hour north of London!), and he said "hey, I know a girl from London, her name's Gemma, do you know her?". I said "weeeeell, there's about 8 million people in London, give or take a few!". I guess I wasn't specific enough, as his next question was "Oh right, so do you know her then?"

:bang:
