do guys find girls who surf hotter?

Have a chat about any general surfing related topics.

To be fair any girl who's a decent surfer it's doubtful that they're doing it to meet fellas. It's for the love of it. In order to progress in surfing you're going to get a bit of a battering at some stage, but you'll go out again and again because you love it so much, even though at times you've almost drowned!
No girl is going to go through that just to meet fellas, there are easier not-so-dangerous ways of meeting lads.

You'd know the girls that are doing it to meet fellas/for their image. It's the ones that come out on small sunny days, and there's no sign of them during winter/ when it gets any way big.

My question is..How can some of you post on the internet and not be able to read?

If a girl is surfing for attention and guys..and guys attention...Thats not going to slide. At my break..you surf to surf. We were raised to protect our beach from people with false images of the surfing scene..surfing because its "like so totally cool"

Now every girl likes "surfer guys"....until they find out surfers dont look, talk, or act like the "hollister type guys"

Same thing happened in the 80's with Op...a surf company that went mainstream and sold a fake image of surfers

If you are at our break to have an awesome fcking time..rock on..everybodys welcome as long as you show respect. If you are in my way..giggling trying to pick up guys...prepare to get vibed.

and to answer the original question..no, unless im impressed

I also really enjoy the fact on how i specifically said hot girls only surf to pick up guys

If a girl is out to pick up guys..and get in peoples way...you dont get waves in my town.

If you are hot, ugly, trangender, guy, girl, grandma and are out there being responsible(not in peoples way, showing respect) we are happpy to have you

Postby stokedandreadytoride » Thu Jul 29, 2004 5:07 pm

ok i havent really surfed yet, im in training right now, like you know getting my body ready to go and surf, doing exercises whatever! ok but its my first time posting and i HAVE to say something about this!
ok im surfing for the waves to please myself, i could care less if some guy is out there while im surfing, it would be just me and the waves, yeah im kinda cute and if some one thinks im surfing because of a guy then thats really stupid, its like saying you play basketball for a guy, and really i could care less if a guy thought i was hot cuz i surf because really i have a lot of other things i could be doing then listening to them say "oh thats really awesome that you surf, your so hot, you are gonna have to teach me or something" i mean its practically saying oh i wanna see you half naked so teach me how to surf!
that was for the guys that dont surf and for the guys that do i pretty much say the same thing except for that they wouldnt be saying teach me how to surf, but... id be nice to just talk to them and if they think im hot cool if its cuz i surf then whatever....guys should look at you as a person not a body, cuz thats what most of them do....

I just have to post on this one.

Inlet Surfer you are the man. Your above post sums it up perfectly.
I'm abit older than you (late 30's) and I believe the absolute coolest thing a surfer can do is NOT look like a surfer. My hair is short, I am clean-cut & I wear a suit to work. I refuse to wear surfer-branded clothing (i.e Billabong,. Rip-Curl etc) because, frankly, I don't do visible conspicuous labels. I think it's crass, a sell-out by those previously legitimate brands and I don't feel the need to associate myself with a fake lifestyle by buying junk clothes knocked up in some poor 14 year old slave-girl working for 50 cents a day in some Asian Sweatshop. (truth people...that's where they really do come from).

Male or Female...Real surfers feel no need to advertise their passion on their back, like all truely important things in your life...some things are best worn on the inside.

locals arent rude....they are paranoid. Dont do anything stupid infront of them like throw trash on the beach, talk like "duuuuude i got soooo tubed", drop in on anyone, or get in anyones way

then you wont have a problem

I do support localism, however i do not support violence

I've never posted here before but after reading this topic I felt the need to reply (lucky you hahaha).

First, on the topic of whether guys find girls who surf "hotter" my opinion is yes and no. There is the girl that surfs because she likes to surf. This girl is "hotter" because it reflects her personality; she's doing something she likes to do which usually gives them this aura of confidence. The word is not "hot" but attractive. Guys find this girl more attractive because she shares a similar interest to them and shows she's not afraid to go out there and get banged up a bit vs. the girly-girl who sits at home and bitches about the lack of quality she got during her pedicure. It really just depends on what a guy is looking for, some like the tom-boy some like the girly-girl, most like a mix of the two.

Second, there is another girl who looks like girl number one but is not the same. She may go out to surf because she wants to look like girl number one. However, she does nothing but sit in the water and talk and paddle around never really trying to catch waves. I think this is what Inletsurfer was referring to in one of his previous posts. I am also from New Jersey(USA) and live in a beach town. The problem is that these towns are very tourist-ty which is both good and bad. It's good for the local shops to make money but bad because it gets very crowed very quickly. Imagine the street out in front of your house if you happen to live in the country. Now imagine walking out one morning and seeing bumper to bumper traffic for as far as the eye can see, natrually you would be aggravated. Not at one person in particular, but just in general at all the people and this huge traffic jam. This is what it's like to live at a beach town in the summer. The same goes for in the water. One day you walk out and there might be ilke 10 people out there all taking turns and out there for the waves. The next day there is 30-40 people out there all getting in each other's way. Couple that with the fact that most of those people are out there just to say that they surfed to the people back home and never really went out to catch waves and trust me, you'd get angry.

You know those people, they are the ones that go into the shop buy a $500+ shortboard and have never surfed a day in their life. They don't want to get a longboard or a soft top to start out on because it doesn't "look cool". They want a souvenier for their bedroom, dorm room, or living room depending on the age. I have no problem with beginners, I'm still a beginner myself and feel I am incredibly lucky that I am able to live at the beach. You can see the difference in the beginner who wants to learn to surf and the beginner who is just out there to say they did it. The true one will get pounded and head back out for more, the other will paddle for 20 minutes on his custom shortboard with the sweet paint job and then go in never even coming close to catching a wave. This is the proverbial Poser and you see it in almost every sport/hobby there is. I am also an avid motorcyclist and nothing breaks my heart more than seeing that custom chopper or ducati with only 200miles on the odometer up on its trailer being towed around.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I've been reading for a couple weeks now and you guys seem like a pretty good bunch of people. Thanks.

Yeah..looks like you got it all in there. I'm really glad theres another jersey local to see why im so upset. The crowd in the water isnt that bad...just a short hike to the ghetto where the beach is empty everyday..Where my buddy Tillie is always smiling from the convention hall to casino...from the deal lake pools to the stone pony...guess what break im talking about.

Hey i think doing anything just for the image is foolish, for example i know a few guys who play electric guitar because it looks cool. They go out and spend £200 on a copy of a famous model and it sits in the corner of their room making them look cool

The same goes for surfing just for the image neither dedicated guitarists or dedicated surfers appreciate these "imposters" (seems like the best word) trying to get in with them.

Where i live being a surfer seem to make me a bit o an outcast so i would have given up a long time ago. Same goes for my guitar. If i were doing that for the image would i have spent well over a grand for no "image" improvement at all?

why do anything interesting like surfing or playing guitar when you can just buy the assessories and look like you do those things? what a no brainer. anything even slightly interesting has been commodified to the point where you can actually buy your identity and preferred ideology at the mall. rebellion is so hot right now.
