serious injury :( :( :(

Postby thaya » Mon Jul 10, 2006 7:57 am

I've had a pretty bad weekend. Me and Sam split up and I was so mad at him for cheating on me that I took off to Newquay in the middle of the night and went for a surf the next day. (iomarti - I didn't have your number otherwise I would have given you a call!)

The waves were awesome. They were massive (for me anyway - about 5/6ft high) and really powerful. I was having a wicked time - standing up on my board, even starting to turn here and there. I had the biggest grin on my face for about 4hours until I wiped out spectacularly...

I wrenched my shoulder really badly and screamed like hell  . Knew I'd done something BADDDDD. Managed to drag myself to the shore (almost) where I promptly passed out with the pain. Came round a bit later to find myself covered in blankets, on oxygen, with 7/8 lifeguards stood round. I would have been really embarrassed if anyone had seen me, but I figured that no one would be able to tell it was me. I never knew there were that many lifeguards on one small bit of beach. You learn something new everyday.

So, my shoulder's a mess. It's well and truely f***ed up. Got my arm in a sling so I don't move it. Doped up on painkillers  . Have come into work to sort out cover for my lessons over the next few weeks. I'm writing this with one hand and I'm still almost crying with pain. I've got to have surgery next week so they can re-shape the bone or something and I've been told I wont be able to surf for 6months to a year, minimum. That can't be right, surely... I'm gutted. Absolutely gutted.
I just can't imagine not being able to surf, especially at this time of year coming up to autumn. I'm just soooooooooooooooooooo gutted. Totally

Dude that sucks! Youu defo have my sympathy as i know what it feels like to be injured and not be able to do your favourite sport. I tore the cartilidge in my knee kitesurfing and manage to lock my knee solid so that i couldn't move it. Rehabilitation and surgery stopped me kiting for 8 months. 1 month back in the water and i gave myself a hernia kitesurfing which resulted in another operation and a further 6 months off.
Doctors always tell you the maximum time out of the water so you might find that 6 months is only 3 before you can at least go for an easy paddle.
Hang tight and you should catch at least some of the late autumn swells. Fingaz crossed and at the next meet you can boast about your surfing injuries and how you beat off an attacking shark with your shoulder.

Aw dear

How did you wipe out? if you're going to get a serious surf injury then at least make the wipe-out into a good story.

Quick bit of advice re: recovery - The NHS is great, but cheapskate. They wont offer you anything they dont have to. So they'll fix up the shoulder so it works 'enough' rather than 'perfect' (or as good as can be). Start demanding physio and a rehabilitation course as soon as you can, otherwise you'll be fobbed off with the minimum they can give you.

And spend the next two months looking at webcams of flat spells - then it wont seem too bad, and it'll soon be new year and we'll drag you to the coast :D

Aww thaya....i really feel for you hunny! Sounds like you had a really crap weekend...

Just going to plant a little seed in your mind...if you want to make yourself feel a little better (and you can do this with one hand.....guys please dont turn this around!) Let me know.....

I just need to know 3 things...

1. Does your ex have a vechicle of some sort...motorbike, car, van?
2. If so is this vechicle nesscessary to his everyday routine, or is it particulary special to him?
3. Can you get your hands on a few big tubs of vaseline?

Anyways that out of the way, i hope you feel better soon and i wish you a speedy recovery! In the mean time heres something to make you feel a little better...

waaah .. whatcha done darhlin :( ..well at least it sounds like you had fun before it all got painfull , good on ya for bailing down to Newquay and playing in some sensible waves to get your mind off boyfriend jive :D ..a lesser woman would have been sat there thinking of nastee ass ways of getting at him ... " that can wait untill later "

Shoulders are a bugger .. ive had lots of physio on my right shoulder beings as it is disslocated forever .. well thats what the cheapskate at NHS reckoned but as matt says chances are they just didnt want to spend any money on me so i reccommend going private or harrasing them every step of the way to get it sorted .. and properly :D

Ok you might miss some of the summer season on your board but theres no reason you cant still get in the water for a paddle and sit on the beach with friends :D ... and soon enough you'll be good to go !! :D :D

looks like your stuck with us for entertainment for the summer

p.s .. i really dont like cheats  so allow me to offer my " walk into his local and beat the crap outta him in front of his friends " service  ...and then i'll cover him in jennies bucket of vaseline and make him roll in sand .. that should about do it :P x

As to whatever jennies got in mind ... im not sure if i would be afraid or intrigued lolol

Thanks for all the replies and words of encouragement (oh and tips about my ex!). Love y'all. That was the worlds shortest romance I think! Nevermind. There's plenty more fish in the sea... indeed I met a nice one at the weekend after my little accident. He turned up at the hospital with some fruit! Do you think I'm in with a chance?

Anywaysssss, I'm in LOADS of pain so I'm off home after having spent the morning setting work for my classes. Going to spend the next few months in bed feelin miserable. Enjoy the surf and remember how lucky you are to be able to go.

I feel like S**T.

bro ..there was absolutely nothing wrong with your bbq ... and the environmental agency has said that most of the wildlife has returned to that part of Devon now and only the smallest of animals still require inhalers

Right Thaya - I should have been there!!! Next time do not surf here alone I am PMing you right now with my number and address. YOu could of stayed at mine too, so I'll get you my number..

And I am so so so sorry....and sending you huge hugs....and wishing you all the good well wishes I can fit into my head!!

Which beach were you at? You say it was a small one, I'm figuring Great Western? If it was this weekend you did extremely well to catch good waves...it's been so blown out that I haven't been able to get through the neverending white water, and it looks the same today...

PM me your address.... I may have a little present for you too  :D
