Need advise of new board to buy

Postby Pokey » Fri May 14, 2021 3:03 pm

I'm looking for a board, I'm 6'6" 290 lbs and old. I have a broken body (motorcycle accident left leg, tore knee right leg, etc..) but love to be out in the waves. I've been on boogy boards for year, have rented long boards in the past and had fun with it. I bought a 6 foot foam board to us as a extra big boogy board. which works great. but now I'm buggy to just surf. I was going to buy a torq fun board, TEC M2 XL 8.0x23x3 1/4 with look to be perfect for me, not too long, light, wide enough for me to get up on(wide shoulders) but fun for riding on the knees if it comes to that. But it is being discontinued. I'm in Wisconsin, so fresh water, steep waves short rides. and once a year to Florida, Daytona and Coco Beach. I do have a shop more than willing to made me a board which is what I'm going to do unless some has a better idea.

so you surf Lake Michigan? whoa that's hard core. I'm not sure how much you surf but generally they recommend you get a board 3 feet longer than you are to start with but fresh water old and crippled might make an even longer one better. I am not the one to ask about board choices so see what everyone else says but I would think a 9'6" to 10 foot board might be good for you.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Don‘t know how it would fit but a dedicated actual kneeboard, much shorter and knee specific with knee pads on deck from the Cove Pad buying the USA, could well be suited , if you are choosing a longboard to knee ride investigate this, there are a lot of knee board websites.
Any questions I‘ll post links etc!

I am a lighter (210) and smaller (6.3) also old (55) beginner but without a broken body. I would never consider a board that small as your wave count will suffer hugely. The smallest you should go for is something like the Walden Mega Magic 9.0. Kneeboarding as suggesred by Jaffa might be a good alternative.
