Epoxy vs. Polyester - Can I always use Epoxy?

Postby NordicSurfer » Tue Apr 06, 2021 4:31 pm

Hey guys!

So I'm from one of the Nordic countries (Europe) where we have much smaller surf communities. (Might have something to do with the 0 degrees celcius water temps in the winter...)

I recently started fixing some friends boards and since I am the only one in town that can fix them, I now have 8 boards waiting in my basement to be fixed. Now I know the basic principle: You can use Epoxy on both, you can only use Poly on Poly.

Now my question is: Would it be fine to just use Epoxy for all repairs? The damages range from small dings to full buckles, and I don't really see the point in using Polyester, if Epoxy works just as fine, has a stronger chemical bond and weighs about the same. Plus I have 3 kilo's of high quality Epoxy in the basement, which also counts for something.

Since I am relatively new to this, I just wanted to make sure I am not missing something really dumb here?

I look forward to your replies. :D
