Honolulu in October - where to rent a board

Postby RobSF » Sun Sep 08, 2019 4:16 pm

I’m 61 and visiting Hawai’i for the first time (did I get the apostrophe in the right place?). Tagging along for a spouse’s conference. While she sits in meetings, I’ll be in the water.

Taking suggestions for where to rent a board—hard top preferred, not a foamie. We’re staying at the Ala Moana Hotel. I doubt I’ll have time to go anywhere but Waikiki.

Is this going to ruin me forever for NorCal surfing?

Plenty of board rentals on Waikiki beach, stroll and choose!
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

What ever ever you do DO NOT rent a board from Dive Oahu that currently runs the Waikiki beach stands ( run by the city ). If you do want to rent from the beach, further down are stands run by the hotels on State property. The one I used to work for is Aloha Beach Services which is in front of the Moana hotel next to the wall of the Outrigger main and Duke's restaurant.

If you can rent a board off the beach, and don't mind walking a block, There's Koa Board Sports behind the Hyatt Regency hotel. I think it's $25 usd for half day and $35 for 1 day, ( so surfing evening, and surf the next day and bring it back ) and like $120 for 7 days. And you can switch boards depending on the swell or what you like. They even have a storage rack if your hotel doesn't allow boards in your room.
