Surfing advices about Maldives

Hi guys!
I plan to visit Maldives soon and I need your advice about this. I know that it is a place with expensive resorts. but also there are several surf camps which claim to have some waves.

Can you recommend me some place there?
Do you think it makes sense to live on the same island where the camp is because only from there I can get to surf spot on a boat? Or boats are cheap and can be found anywhere?
Do you know some good resort which has surfing activities too?
