A month in Indo

Postby JNorwood » Tue Jan 29, 2019 1:14 pm

Hi,

I was hoping to get some help here!

I'm planning a trip to Indonesia for a month in either May or June and struggling to find the best place for my specifications. I'm looking for:

Beginner/Intermedia surf spot
An apartment or room not to far from the beach (surfboard lugging distance)
Decent(ish) wifi

If anyone could point me in the right direction, that'd be totally fab! I've been travelling around SEA for a couple of months now and Indonesia/Bali seems like the place to be!

Thank you :D

OK , you are going in the midst of the Bali/ Indonesian season, when the beginner intermediate surf ants nest has been stirred up with a whole lot of sticks.
Most semi half decent accommodation has already been booked for months!

Much of Kuta Bali has a multitude of hotels, cheap and walkable to Kuta,.
There a lot of threads of Indonesian advice here, read through them.
But questions we need to ask you before we direct you more specifically .
What can you do in your surfing as a beginner intermediate?
Are you taking your own board? Hire and rental is possible.
Internet is good but as you get beyond the main centres gets a little bit worse.

Do you have a preference, being goofy or natural?
What is your home break? Another way of gauging your skills.
Are you self sufficient in surf safety and survival?
Lifeguards are not a feature once you get beyond Kuta Bali.
Beyond and in Bali there are many many surf options, a lot will be beyond your level.
Your timing will see the maximum number of learner/ would be surfers, the mainstream question is can you handle crowds?

Like I said have read, and ask questions after you answer the basics for us! :D

Are you wedded to Bali or willing to try less touristy areas like Java or Lombok? If you have been travelling around and have travel 'experience', then they might be totally fine, cheaper and less crowded. eg places like Batu Karas or Pacitan (Java) or Lombok (but check the earthquake restoration status, it may still be a bit of an issue). As Jaffa has said, do you need surf camps or lessons or rental boards? How necessary is good internet
