Best board for medium to smaller waves

Hey to all, i am a new user and have been struggling to find the perfect board. I have looked into torq, pyzel, lost, sharp eye, and a couple of the mediocre shapers in my area. i am very interested and have looked into buying an entire quiver! However i am sorta confused on the daily driver, everyday boards. I am very interested in a channel islands, pyzel or lost. my dims are 5,7 13 y/o 115 lbs and begginer/intermediate. i am really trying to cut past the marketing hype and looking into whats best for me. In addition, to anyone that wants to try, make an entire quiver selection! Right now i am riding a channel islands & Torq pod mod 5,10 and im really liking it! Thank you to anyone who have took the time out of their day to help me!

Sadly, there is no such thing as the "PERFECT" board, just as there's no perfect BMX bike, Snowboard, Golf club, baseball bat, computer or paint brush. And say there is a "Perfect" BMX bike, now you got to deal with the right tire choice ( fins on a surfboard ) . You may find that "Magic" board one day that works for you, and only then to have the manufactuer changes the design the next season.

You said you like the 5'10" CI and Torq Pod mod, so to build a quiver, get a Step Up board which is longer more rockered for bigger waves and thinner and a Groveller / Fish which is wider flatter for mushy days.

Question to you: what is the better brand ?
Honda or Toyota ? Ford or Chevy?

If you like CI / Torq, why don’t you stick with them unless you have complaints ?

So mean like a “half a step” step up board ? I don’t see really the need if there’s not a drastic difference than your “Go-To” board. You could just try installing different template/size fins to adjust the ride of the “Go-To” instead.

I'm not a shortboard surfer really, but I think the Libtech boards are enticing. I've never surfed one though. Maybe in a few years with more shortboard knowledge I'll have a different opinion.

Do you live somewhere where it's common to find used boards for sale (surf shops, Craigslist, etc)? If so, look for good deals on used boards that interest you. Try 'em out. If you like 'em, keep 'em. If not, resell 'em and get something else. If you're smart about your purchases and don't buy junk, you can try a bunch of different boards without losing money. You might even make a little if you get some good deals.

Woah dude, you just lost me there. I know wave sizing can differ from place to place. So you’re saying you want an “in-between” board for chest high to head and half over sized waves ? If that is “in-between”, what size wave is normal where you surf where you use your average board ? And then what is the size waves you would use a “Step-Up in ?

By the way, WHO is buying those brand named boards for you ? I couldn’t have a job at 13 years old.

I used to surf the crap out of my DD nautique with my broadcast board before I bought a vdrive. 500lb bag on the surf side and 500lb bag on the back seat.

It was bad enough having Long Board Skaters not knowing the difference between surfing waves versus riding on concrete.
Now we have to deal with Wakeboarders not understanding this forum is for surfing WAVES not boat WAKES.
