Aloha Poke Co. has no ALOHA

Postby waikikikichan » Tue Aug 07, 2018 9:58 pm

Please search "Aloha Poke Co." The owner who had never been to Hawaii and even tried real "poke", capitalized on the popularity told to him by a friend who visited the islands and created a company in CHICAGO. He trade marked the name and sent out cease and desist letter to companies in Hawaii ( and around the country whose owners are actual Hawaiians ) to stop using the words "Aloha" and "Poke" in their names ( even those company have been there for years ). So you might say he is a smart business man and that the Hawaii companies should have trade marked their names first. But that's the point of ALOHA, no one in Hawaii that understands what ALOHA is , would ever do that. Aloha is not for sale or to be owned.

Please support the Hawaiian culture from greedy capitalist ( who already once illegally overthrew the Hawaiian Monarchy ) Please boycott all Aloha Poke co. locations.

"It’s pretty absurd for a white business owner to tell indigenous people that they have no right to use their own words and their own food." - Walter Deleon

By the way, the vegetable bowls with some cut fish he's selling isn't even real Poke. At least sell the real thing !!

I eat poke somewhere around once a week. Oddly I never make it or buy it but clients buy me it often enough for me to average once a week. None of the companies it comes from have poke in their name or aloha but if they are like me they would just find this poor taste on the part of the company trying to claim the name (pun intended)
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I don't know about what is trully Hawaiian poke. Hawaiians didn't have green onions, regular onions, sesame seed, shoyu, chili pepper. It looks like the mainland poke might be tasty. Don't know never tried it. Traditional poke in my mind is fish, limu (seaweed), inamona (chopped up kukui nut), salt, and octopus gall bladder
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

We just planned to go to "Aloha Poke" locally the coming Friday, so I had to look that company up. Seems that the German Company is a different one (Different Logo, no "Co." in the Name), so we will go. Hopefully they will not get sued by that Amercian Company.

This is how billie often makes his poke at home in Santa Barbara. It's simple and is a very common breakfast or lunch for me.

Looks tasty I generally let other people buy me poke which seems to happen regularly. I usually make sashimi with raw fish (that is also given to me)
