Who else got wiped out by THAT set on saturday at Croyde?

Postby drowningbitbybit » Mon Sep 26, 2005 11:37 am

Saturday evening, low tide at Croyde, cross offshore, and head high :D

It was, to be honest, a bit steeper take off than I like, and the crowds were a bit too thick

But I was happy to have made the paddle out, and was resting in the line-up before committing to any waves.
Suddenly, everyone starts moving forward with a certain urgency - BIG set coming in

So I paddle at this double overhead monster, and try and duck it... but it closes out bang smack on the line up :?

Then I had the scariest hold down Ive ever had, and got tossed about like a rag doll in a tumble drier, then had to paddle up to the surface to get some much needed air

Then I did that thing you do after getting wiped out before you've even stood up - looked around wondering who'd seen me make such a twat of myself. But to my horror/relief I saw all the guys that had 30seconds ago been next to me in the line-up doing exactly the same thing - spitting seawater, breathing hard, wondering where they were, and who was watching... This monster wave had caught almost the whole line-up inside

Anyone else get caught?

Plans changed due to me and lil'man both having a tantrum in the morning and neither of us giving in to the other meant that by the time we were friends again it was too late to head for the water ..." gutted " ... but amusing

ahh well , i missed a big hold down ..damn .. i love it when a monster sneaks up and says boo !! my buddy has said that hes sure im not trying to learn to surf just hunting the biggest scare i can get ... sometimes i think hes right  :P

Simpsons without a doubt.

Futurama is good, but the Simpsons is groundbreaking and works on so many levels:

Halloween Episode - King Kong Parody:

BURNS: Ah Miss Bouvier, you'll make a welcome change from these hardened sailors
SAILORS: Grrr, Aaaargh
BURNS: What do you think Smithers?
SMITHERS: Well sir, I think women and Seamen don't mix...
BURNS: We all know what you think!!

See, many levels!!

I still have to go with the Simpsons.

Futurama is ace, but would it have been possible without the Simpsons?

I agree the Simpsons is re-run too much, but with such classic lines as:

"Murphy, you are a elf, uncontrollably I think and a we nun yoho rehijo"

You can't go wrong!!

10 points to anyone who tells me which episode that was from!!
