River surfing in germany

Postby benjl » Wed Sep 20, 2017 2:15 pm

Just spent a few days in Munich and came across these guys!! In about 5 degrees temperature, one guy didn't even have booties on!
They use this pulley/ rope system with nets under the water to adjust the flow so it creates more of a bank / wave instead of just white water.
I'm not sure what was better, that or Oktoberfest

It was pretty impressive, they were cutting back right against the wall and getting spray. One dude was even trying 360's and landed a few. Such a cool vibe and I guess what surfing is about- finding the stoke whereever and whatever conditions you can make do with

Hey Jaffa

Are you coming for Oktoberfest?
Such a cool festival! Prague is also incredible. Just spent the last month going around Europe. Did some paddleboarding in Greece but awaiting to jump back on the surfboard when I return to nz!

Probably the best wave we have. Quite dangerous too. And it is even further away than the brownish windswell soup called North Sea :?

But North Sea it will be again in a week from now. Things look as usual: :( :( :(

Still hoping to cross paths with Jaffa. All the best for a safe trip! Only 8h drive for you to get to the longest bar in the world :-)

You could probably surf a really short board since paddling is a non issue.....mixed feelings about this....kind of like a wave pool. Many of the elements of surfing that I love are eliminated; almost like an amusement park ride or a half pipe.
