Wondering which board is better as a "summer" board while still maintaining performance?

This question won't help you very much, the forum is world wide, summer means different surf conditions in different countries. Try describing what your summer conditions are then we might be able to fit the board to the break.
Reading through your posts you are looking for a magic board......? Boards don't do it, the riders do!

I like the Lost V3 over the sampler, I have no experience with either and based on your other posts I think you may be thinking too short for Sydney summer surf but it's an answer to your question.

Despite the description, the sampler looks like a fairly stock short board with a touch more foam. The lost rocket looks more like a smaller wave board although not a 1ft wave board.

Just get a hypto like everyone else!

True, I was also looking at a hypto or an evo but are the hyptos really that good? I keep hearing mixed things

I know a few hypto surfers and they say it's s great board if you want a board that's 4-6inches shorter than your standard short board ie you can surf a 5'8 instead if a 6'2; and it's great for 1-3ft beachies. It is flatter rocker and wider etc but if you surf it short then it doesn't affect things too much (over a standard high perf shirt board)

What it's not good for is getting a 6'4 for the high volume - doesn't work in the bigger versions

But they are pretty expensive - you can certainly get a custom for the same price; although I'm not one to say a custom is always better

Yeah I think that may have been a way to go. My brother brought a 5'10 and I had a go on it and hated it because of the extra volume, would allow wind to get under the board. But I think a 5,4 would word better for me :)

both those boards look nice. I purchased a Sampler today, unfortunately I haven't surfed it yet. I don't rate the hyptos. i find them minimal ish in regard to the way they turn. I got it because I liked the New Flyer and I think it will be similar. what did you end up buying?

i think that comment up the thread is right on. the sampler feels very similar to a shortboard with more foam. It turns great but feels less literage than suggested. still a good board though. needs bit of grunt to get you moving.

Loads of boards for what you are looking for.....my current small wave board is a Webber mini fish....flattish rocker but more than on a traditional fish....wideish nose but not like a fish which I don't like....a tail that isn't excessively wide since here even small waves have power in them (but wide enough for my size 14's!). Epoxy board so really light and easy to accelerate and get in smallish waves. Super fun. I like mine but there are loads of boards like what you are after.

any updates lol.. I got a v3 rocket now only surfed it twice, in 2-4 mud waves.

sampler is one of the best boards going around in my amateur opinion. ive had a few boards since my last post.. but forgot my other login lol.. its fast and turns sharp, fannings calm it down, am2s liven it.. hs too upright you don't need the pivot.. over 4-5 foot on steeper waves you get the speed wobbles. but hands down I had three samplers and loved them all. all were in pu construction

as for the v3 rocket i surfed it twice for hour surf each surf.. too fat and old lol.. but i havent mastered it yet.. I will in the next couple months and do another post if anyone wants to read it
