The future of surfing has arrived

Postby Tudeo » Fri May 19, 2017 12:06 am

It looks to me as THE ANSWER to the older surfer with shoulder problems, but I've got a feeling there will be controversy

That would suck when you go for an air-reverse and you heel clicks "on" the boost button.

Garrette MacNamara has been surfing them for a while
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Make sure that if you must introduce plastic bags or stuff into the ocean do it near their intakes.

Still, it looks like a great solution for the older or disabled.

Deus ex machina

I lean toward nature's way. If a chick can't break its way out of its shell, then maybe it's just not strong enough to be out of its shell in the first place. It's already crowded enough in the ocean. I don't think we need ways to get around the fitness demands that come naturally to surfing. If people can't hack the physical restrictions and dangers of surfing, then they should probably take up billiards.

I understand the controversy, but I can also understand the strong wish to catch a wave for surfers with shoulder problems. I think there is no reasonable argument against this innovation. Most arguments seem based on a false feeling of entitlement of able surfers not willing to share waves.

But yeah, I wouldnt be happy too, to lose paddle battles against healthy kooks with motorised takeoff power. Come to think of it, this happens to me in Bali on a daily basis, where beginners are pushed in by local motors (coaches). :?

I think you make a pretty good argument against it there. I'd like to stand on the summit of Everest, but if I require a state-of-the-art tram with free flowing oxygen in the cabin so I don't get altitude sickness, then maybe I'm the one suffering from a sense of entitlement instead of the climbers ascending the mountain under their own power. You can't always get what you want. Nevertheless, the motorized surfboard is here and on surfing forums so it's probably not going away. Will it diminish the sport of surfing? I think it will, but what else is new?
