Hola Amigos! I stumbled upon this forum and cruised it a bit and saw that like any good forum there appears to be a wealth of information and teck advice here. I left my country (USA) and became a full time expat and home owner here in Costa Rica. My local surf break is Dominical on the South Central pacific but have all ready got wet at 17 different playas from Dominical all the way up the coast of Guanacaste. I came with the intention of my 'latest big thing' and that was to learn to surf and run my street luge on the mountain black tops here. I met a great instructor that is a tournament surfer and did great yesterday on my 2nd lesson that took me past the white out to the real waves, What A Trip! I bought a transition board that day and vowed to get as good as I possible could at surfing and I agree with what I read here a few minutes ago "riding white water is not surfing" and yes it takes a lot of hours to get the hang. I hit the water every day no matter what the conditions. I'm hooked and now am the proud owner of 3 boards, my best friend my 8' learner, my newly acquired 5'11 transition rig and my 5'11 Bill Johnson that I got from a tournament surfer here last year. he had too many boards to fly with so I got it affordable. Some day when I feel I can really surf, my goal is to get a very 'Long' board, I love every thing 60's and 70's and l look forward to the day I'm up on a classic long board...Always have a goal! Now back to reading all these great info posts and thanx to all for sharing your experiances and knowledge, it helps!!
