As my residence is 2h from So. Maine / New Hampshire beaches and 3 from Rhode Island, half the battle is logistics: it's all about the forecast, with a weather-eye on the wifely permission-meter. Rye is the closest and my go-to, for consistency, community and convenience (close parking, shower in summer, surf shop/cafe across the street . . .). Great vibe at Rye, and a chance to practice my rusty language skills on the Quebec contingent, some of whom are always there (from 4 hours away) whenever there is swell. Only the Rye sunrise pic is my own, and I have zero pics of myself surfing.

These are the usual suspects, from North to South:


Long Sands Beach, York, Maine (good protection from a North wind)

....and that snow picture is just nuts.....as long as the choice exists I will never ever live where it gets like that again......and you guys think "hey, surfs up.....let me just dig the car out first...."

Which is your favourite? I like the looks of the RI reef break.

I would have said the Rhode Island reef was my favorite, until this morning: Rye delivered the goods! I arrived just after low tide, and while the local crowd was concentrated at Fox Hill Point which was working both lefts and rights like I've never seen, I remembered a tip from a friend and found another point throwing head-high slabs from way outside, with an obvious channel /rip and only a few others out; then as the rising tide washed that point out, the adjacent beach break started working nice and hollow.

Still, I love that reef, it's got three distinct breaks and is one of my few chances for consistent lefts. I may get to hit it Tuesday after a conference in Providence but the forecast is not encouraging.

Since this is a picture thread I will add a few different crops of the only half decent still I got yesterday of a cheater five on a smaller wave. I don't know the surfer but he was on fire, including one no-paddle takeoff straight into a smooth walk out onto the front porch . . .

Was here yesterday....conditions a little bigger than these photos....this break is skateboarding distance from my house....as much a home break as any though it only works on big swells.....was 2.6m / 18sec yesterday so too big for me most places....this was a little overhead on the biggest sets with most waves being just about shoulder to head high.....fun size.....rights and lefts there; pity it works so rarely.

This year, by the end of september me & my girlfirend have spent five wonderful days in Morocco, great surf guiding, spots for all levels, and the most important thing, its always sunny and warm, happy days

Hi..Im from Malaysia..

We actually got some waves about 4 months a year, but inconsistent.
Nevertheless, here is where I learned to surf.

Cherating, Pahang, Malaysia.

Left point break, sandy bottom. 2ft to 6ft, average 4ft.
Offer long rides up to 500m on a good day.
Strong currents parallel to the beach.
Season is Nov-March
