Sometimes I even make it out. I could probably count the the full throated tubes I have had on one hand .
Interesting question - At what point can a surfer claim a tube?
Head dip? Nah... Cover up? Nope, not good enough...
For me, for it to count, the lip has to be throwing out in front of the surfer, landing in front of the surfer, and for there to be an unbroken wall of water, not just some water landing on the far side of the surfer. Basically, the surfer needs to be invisible from in front of the wave. Oh yeah, and the surfer has to make it out again, otherwise it's just a cover up.
By my own definition, that makes the number of tubes that I've successfully surfed pretty close to zero
