Hello from Orange County, CA

Postby oldgrom22 » Wed Aug 05, 2015 10:23 pm

Hello All,

Been lurking on here for quite some time and wanted to introduce myself. As my name states, I’m an old grom(35) and started surfing about 3 years ago. The main breaks I frequent are HB, Bolsa and San Onofre. I started out on a friends 10ft longboard for the first year or so and eventually got my first board, 8’6 mini-mal Becker LC-3. I rode that for a year, but sold it so I could get a legit longboard(9ft+). Ended up going the opposite direction and picked up a 8ft 7s Superfish and have been on that for the past year. Just picked up a 7’2 hybrid/big guy tri(pintail) recently and it’s definitely feels like a step in the right direction. Need to take more critical drops than the superfish, which can result in some nice wipeouts, but feel like my turns are coming along and love the maneuverability of the smaller board while in the water. Now all I need are more waves to get acclimated to the new ride.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that posts on here. It’s nice to get some constructive info from surfers who like to share the stoke without a lot of the negativity that you can find on some of the other Surf forums out there.

it's refreshing to hear someone taking the slow and steady approach. You will have a strong base to build on when you get the next board after the 7'2". Right on.

Hey well it's about time to post something. Welcome to the forum
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Howdy oldgrom22! It's great to hear from you! I'm in the same boat (in regards to lurking haha). Nice to see a SoCal surfer.

So do you go out to Newport as well? I like HB myself, it's got some great waves. What's the best surfing spot you've been to around here? I'm always excited to learn about new ones! :)
