In Australia we have strict and enforced UV ratings, I also get polarized .
But I don't know if I would be happy to recommend cheap! 8) especially in other countries.
My standard pair replaced regularly cost about $19 AU.

The most affordable surfing sunglasses that will remain in place during wipeout are Sea Specs and Sliverfish. They run $35 to $50. Some of us in this forum like them very much and some of us don't. You can run a search for "sunglasses" in this forum, which will result in quite a bit of useful information.

In short, you'll need to apply an anti-fog compound to most any sunglasses. The best ones are used by divers for their masks. You want a non-elastic strap; otherwise the sunglaases will be pulled from your head in wipeout. Goggles reduce valuable peripheral vision. Therefore, not wise choice.

Final comment: I've been using Sea Specs and Silverfish, which are the same thing, for about 10 years.

Well, you can try them. I started with swimming competition goggles. I did not see the surfer to my left already riding the wave and approaching at blistering speed because my periphery vision was blocked. I examined some swimmer's goggles since them that are more flat, but did not think it was good enough. For 8 of 10 years, my Silverfish were progressive (bifocal) prescription. About 1.5 years ago, I went to single vision contact lenses. I continue to use non-prescription Sea Specs. These sunglasses prevent waves from smacking you straight in the eye. They also prevent strong currents when underwater from going straight into your eye. Because I am wearing contacts now, I close my eyes at point of impact (e.g., fall, wave in face, getting washed underwater). I have not lost a contact, yet, but suspect I would have when learning to surf. As is, I'm not concerned if I lose one. I buy them buy the box load and usually carry a used pair for backup in outdoor activities. When traveling for work, I carry a new pair for backup because not being able to see is no excuse for not working.

Where are you located?

Hey Billie, what model silverfish or sea specs do you wear? Any particular ones that you can recommend?

I can't belive it but after only 1.5 years I am already getting surfers eye develop.. I kid you not.

I don't need prescription ones but just something i guess that will stop the sun and wind from constantly blowing in my eyes when surfing.

Cheers!

I just picked up a pair of sea specs from Amazon for 20something USD. Haven't used them but they look to be decently constructed, fit snug and keep my eyes feeling good in bright sun. I was wishing I had a pair the last late afternoon sesh I had at balangan.

benji,
I am presently using these SeaSpecs:
Classic black with black lens:http://www.seaspecs.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5
Turtle shell with brown lens: http://www.seaspecs.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=44
Red-orange frame w/ black lens for driving my metallic grey Mini Cooper S: http://www.seaspecs.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=44

I used these Silverfish for many years:
Standard black frame and lens http://www.silverfish.com/eyewear/Discount-Surf.html

Three key features with SeaSpecs and Silverfish:
1) non-elastic head strap
2) lots of periphery vision
3) frame's bottom rim is very narrow so water runs out and does not pool

I have a couple of these cases:
http://www.silverfish.com/eyewear/Case1.html

I use this anti-fog solution on the interior of the lens
http://www.scubaprice.com/detalle-articulo.dbsp?articulo=114 -- I have not purchased from this vendor, it's simply the 1st one I grabbed while preparing reply to you

I us this anti-fog solution on the interior of the lens when water and/or air temps are low
http://www.shop.coraledgeadventures.com/McNett-Sea-Gold-40851.htm -- I have not purchased from this vendor, it's simply the 1st one I grabbed while preparing reply to you

Take care of your eyes! Jester tells us above he found a low price on these sunglasses. Maybe you can, too.

benji,
I have also experimented with applying Rain-X to the lens exterior. It didn't seem to help much, so I stopped doing it. Rain-X is basically anti-freeze (ethylene glycol). Here is an example of Rain-X:

There is a big difference between the cheaply made sunglasses and those expensive ones. Sunglasses provide protection from ultraviolet rays in sunlight, and the good and quality sunglasses can eliminate UV rays completely. As we know that UV rays can destroy the cornea and retina. Sunglasses are available at cheap rates but i think that you should purchase an original one.because Cheap have side -effects on eyes.
