I looked at the new board and thought "wow, it looks so big" Personally, I wouldn't have a clue where to put my feet
Although next to the BIC Barge, it does look pretty fun and nimble

She looks tiiiiiiny to me!! Tbh at times I find the bic small enough so its gonna be crazy the first few surfs. Dbbb I'll be glad if I manage to get my feet on the top side of it ANYWHERE during the pop up!

she's gorgeous though, can't stop looking at her..what a beaut! How massive does the bic look now eh? It weighs a ton compared to my new board, still love it though! Now I have a single fin and a thruster set up interested to find out how different the ride is and what I'm gonna be able to do on each when I improve.

DTC I'm gonna try duck diving now too! Might actually work!! I can see this board being one I can have fun on for a long long time. The waves I mostly have are driving me more towards this fun shape over a standard short board but the drop in length and improvement in nippiness will still be a massive challenge.

Won't stop learning on my beloved bic though! Smaller days I'll always be on it and if I'm really crap on the new board it'll be nice to have summat to revert back to to up my skill on. I wasn't meant to buy this board till I'd got a bit better but I couldn't help myself

She's here now, can't wait to try her out!! Will post how I get on.

Not quite impossible, but hard. Certainly very hard to learn to do.

I've got a 6'10 fatboy with a lot less volume than your new board, and that's about my limit of what I can duckdive (me = 85kg), and even that is a bit iffy in waves of consequence.

You should be able to 'duckdip' without any drama (pushing the nose down through the wave), but I reckon a proper duckdive (actually sinking the whole board below the surface) might be a bit of a struggle. Try it on flat water first - can you sink it?

But I think it'll be a whole lot easier than the BIC monster!

Yeah a I'm guessing it'll be way more of a dip than a dive but one things for sure, I'll get it further under than my aircraft carrier!!

We've got pretty similar boards there, yours might be a touch sharper in the nose, I absolutely love my board but have only had weak waves so far to try her on. Itching for something that gives me a drop and a face!

Currently....

Tolhurst 9"6" x 23 x 3 1/16" tuflite
JC Hawaii equalizer 6'10" x 20 x 2 1/2" tuflite
Dempsey eternity 6'8" x 19 1/2" x 2 1/2"

Some people that I've talked to don't rate the tuflite....I think they are fantastic....the longboard has weight added to it; not as heavy as my old PU 9'3" longboard but nearly so you still get the glide along with the iron hull....strong, light, durable, quick to accelerate...love 'em both....

Dempsey has bottom channels...it is the best feeling board out of the bunch, not sure if the channels have anything to do with that, or if it is because it is PU or because of the shaping....apples to apples it just seems to just work better than the others I've tried including the JC....goes where I want and does what I want quicker and easier (huge caveat...relatively speaking.... not near as quick and easy as I'd like or need! )....save for paddling, durability and wave catching which the other one is better at and which I value as a learner just starting to try to figure out hollow reef breaks....it is better in more powerful surf though, the tail seems to settle into the wave rather than sit on top if that makes sense....kinda buttery feeling where it just seems to dig in....and it's more stable despite being more narrow....maybe the channels, maybe less volume allows it to settle into the water a little more....I don't know....I just know that it is easier to ride when the waves are bigger and stronger than the JC is, mainly because everything feels more controlled and less skittery....

my current boards

My current boards sitting on top of the longboard is a 6'2" board that used to belong to my wife when I met her. Then there is my 9'6" longboard and underneath that my 9'6" fungun then my 7'6" fungun then my 8' fungun. I don't use the long or shortboards anymore
