Longboard Slash back / Layback back

Postby waikikikichan » Sun Jun 14, 2015 12:22 am

A lot of discussion on the main forum about cutbacks and getting smaller boards to accomplish that task. Just wanted to share with the other "big" boarders that you don't need a short(er) board to cutback ( or to pump for speed ). Here's a video from last weeks contest. Please forward to 4:18:00 mark or 258 minute mark depending on your youtube set up.

I knew you can do speed turns and cutbacks with a longboard but what is really impressive to me is to do them on small waves like this. still with a shortboard someone can do two or three speed turns in the same distance that a longboarder does one
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

The size of those waves I doubt any adult size shortboarder could do much other than woggle their way across.Far to easy to bog down

I'm impressed with the cutback, and also with SIX HOURS worth of longboarding on 'the other east coast.' Those waves look like what we had rolling through New Hampshire about a week ago. Thanks for the link! I love to watch the whole process in what for me is 'real conditions,' rather than just selected highlights on powerful swell that is relatively rare in my current neck of the woods.

At 2:58 it looked like both people were going to paddle in to each other!! Nice cut back and boost of speed on such small waves though

Well pro surfers could shred those waves on shortboards but novice surfers would have an easier time on a longboard
