Quicksilver and Roxy Pro... it's all in the timing.

Postby drowningbitbybit » Tue Mar 03, 2015 9:26 pm

Last week, we had the remnants of Cyclone Marcia and overhead barrels at Snapper Rocks.

This week, its the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro at Snapper Rocks... and its flat :bang:

For such a huge event, it's been very quiet so far!
And it is huge - the pavilions and building that they've erected for it have changed the shape of the skyline, right up close to the ocean. Glad it's not staying...

The comp is rumoured to be shifting just around the corner to d'bah where there is at least a wave.

I was out in the water yesterday on small weak waves, and I was thinking that on days like this, the pros should do a demonstration day of what can be done on tiny waves. I think we'd learn a lot, and it'd be a bit more relevant for most of us than watching guys pulling 720º airs before pulling back into a double-overhead barrel!
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

How sad they couldn't call the contest on earlier when there were waves, but the first day wasn't too bad and yesterday not too bad either but they may not have much good swell for the rest of the holding period so the contestants are saying they will move the contest to d'bah and they were glad to catch a few at snapper before they switch. The longer holding period has been great for WCT contests but still sometimes mother nature doesn't cooperate. What WCT contestants can do with small waves would only make us look more like drunken monkeys with one arm trying to surf our grandmothers ironing board.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Is this the event that is currently delayed? I was watching some surfing event on sky TV the other day and the waves looked pretty small. Not sure where it was but now it keeps saying delayed on the TV channel.
Is this the one at Snapper Rocks?

It's a bit embarrassing that while the surf is so small that the Pro is being delayed, I went out and had one of the best surfs I've had in ages

Dammit, I like small waves

Nuh. Agree with oldman. If you see someone surfing pipeline, you say 'I haven't done it and sure he will be better than me but who knows by how much' but on small waves you actually surf all you end up realising is that you are so far behind a pro surfer that it's like you aren't even doing the same sport. They probably do a 720 off the wave you are thinking is too small to even bother with

Well, for me anyway. I wish I was a drunken monkey; I look like I should be using the surfboard as an ironing board, it would probably be less embarrassing for the board

They are trying to improve the timing by extending the waiting period for a couple days taking advantage of a predicted storm that will generate some decent waves

Should be picking up around Thursday - at least three swell-generating systems about, so there should finally be some waves on offer!
