I hit up surf all along Virginia for the most part and try to get down to Florida when it's a little colder.

Heya Scott, how's it going? I've seen a lot of people pushing torq boards, what's your take on them and would you recommend?

I've been looking at either torq or southern swell (maybe a shaper if I'm feeling flush and find a good one)

I really like it, but I just got it so it's a little hard to judge since I'm still learning to adjust to it. It hasn't taken be too long to get used to it though so for now I'd recommend it. I've never ridden a southern swell but a friend of mind has one and really likes it.

Thanks buddy, yeah I've heard good things about both. The southern swell is a branch of circle one boards and from what I can gather they're shaped by a chap in England.

How cold is your water at the mo? Ours is 9 C

I've tried many longboads as I worked in a surf camp for a bit. In the end I bought 3 Torq boards as they are really good for beginners. If you have a new 9" then the fins doesn't fit in the finbox. You will need to sand down the fin.

Apart from that, they are good thick boards, easy to paddle and catch waves. Very stable and rock hard. I lost control of my board and hit a boulder, it only cracked the first layer of epoxy.

Are they FCS or futures fins Banz? Don't know much but it seems like futures are far less 'standard' and bit harder to find? FCS are everywgere.

No idea as there is no logo on the fins. But the fins just look like cheap plastic to me.

FCS fins have two lugs that go into two plugs in the board and the old style has two grub screws that screw into the lugs
Futures have a long base on the fin and have a grub screw that screws into the front of the base in the long box the fin inserts into ( not to be confused with a longbox centre fin which has a screw and plate system.
