I was at ASP peniche, met many surfers from Algarve. They said Algarve waves are not brilliant compared to the rest of the country. So perhaps go somewhere else! November is cold but they said it depends on your luck. As last year it was cold but very sunny. No clouds.

November can be great time to surf in Portugal, weather can be hit and miss if you are north of Lisbon, the weather is pretty good year round on the Algarve. If waves it what you are after Peniche is probably the best place to be in europe at this time of year. Peniche is a fantastic place with so may waves i have lost count, more than just those marked on the map. I spend 9 months of the year here and have done for the last 6 years. Locals can be an issue particularly at Lagide...but a little bit of Portuguese goes a long way.Lots of good cheap places to stay particularly if you avoid baleal and have a car.

Ericeira is a nice spot with friendly locals and a few good restaurants etc. Variable weather and cold water though - but cold water is true for Portugal generally. I would probably go there in the summer though.

If you want guaranteed great waves, go to Peniche. It can deliver no matter what kind of swell/wind combo you throw at it. For the weather it depends... in November it should be somewhere in the 60-70F range. If you want warmer weather (with temps above 70F) go south to Algarve.

For surf camps - try these surf2smile.com. I usually surf on my own, but was there a couple of times and had a great time.
