Welcome Erico, your written English skills are not poor, possibly better than some native speakers!

Again, welcome, tell us about your adventure surf where you are, there are often questions about what surfing is like there! :D

Hey, welcome! I surfed Cottillo back in May last year. Lovely big sandy beach, very windy though!

Yes, the best season for surfing here is from september to december. Spring and summer are too windy.
In addition, in autumn the famous reef-breaks of the north shore are working almost every day

Sounds good if your a local! Im still very much beginner so the idea of reefs scare me a little. I dont want to be ripping my face up trying to surf a reef when Im happy enough falling in on beach breaks at present. I do want to surf reefs breaks though, really like the concept of point breaks.

Hi Dantastic1985,
Don't worry ! Some reef breaks here are safer than the El Cotillo shore break... In Majanicho o Hierro ("german left"), the waves break in 1 meter or more water depth. If you make your takeoff on the right side of the peak, you will never crash into the rocks.

I have gone to Majanicho with friends who never have surfed before and none of them suffered injuries.

By contrast, in El Cotillo some guys suffered neck injuries, by crashing into the sand.
Powerful shorebreak + shallow water = :bang:
