New Surfer

Postby bigcherry » Sat Oct 06, 2012 7:27 pm

Hi All,
I am a big dude 6'4" 240 lbs and use a 9ft foamy. Went to San Onofre for 2 days last week. Caught a lot of waves on my chest and knees, but never really got up on my feet. Stoked nonetheless.
I tweaked my left shoulder somehow though...too much paddling and my rotator cuff feels crappy. Hopefully a little time will heal it up and I can get back out there.

Live up in Santa Clarita and have 3 little kids, so getting to the waves is a challenge, but my wife is learning with me, so we're both stoked and will be back out soon.

Look forward to learning a lot from this forum. :D

HI bigcherry, welcome to Surfing Waves!

Don't let the tweak set you back, but do give it time to heal. It's great your wife is learning with you, that's one thing that will increase the time you can spend in the water. How old are your kids? I hope you're going to get them into the water, a regular little surf team :-D

Kids are 2, 5, and 6. Not comfy in the waves yet, but we have pushed the 6 year old into a few waves.
Just got a 11 foot Becker longboard and man it makes a huge difference in ease of paddling versus my 9 foot foamy. Still at it. Shoulder is still a little tweaked, but getting stronger. Stoked!
