Wearing Boardshorts Under Wetsuit?

Hey guys and gals, I have just bought my new winter wetsuit - the billabong gold soultion! I got it in medium and it fits right! Only thing is I cant wear my boardshorts under the wetsuit or wear my rashvest really. My summer wetsuit allowed this as its thiner.
Was wondering do I need a bigger size or is it best to just wear the wetsuit on its own with a tight fit(not too tight tho)?

We've had this discussion recently and the general concensus from the guys was that they dont wear anything under their wetsuits. Wearing boardies is a big no-no as they are way too big and bulky and will just bunch up and generally be really uncomfortable under a wettie. A few of them wore speedo's, but its certainly not necessary. As for a rashie, if you can't one under your wettie, are you sure its not a bit tight across the shoulders? Can you zip it up yourself or do you have to get someone to hold the back together and zip it up for you? How thick is the wetsuit? If its a 5/4/3 or more you probably wont need a rashie underneath anyway, i managed in wales in february with a 5/4/3 and just a bikini underneath so i'm sure you will be fine

thanks for the reply. I didnt think it was necessary to wear boardshorts underneath, just wear boxers. The wetsuit is 5/4/3 and I can zip it up myself. I think I could manage to get a rashvest on underneath it, so its ok. Are u in New Zealand Libby or in wales?

I'm in New Zealand studying for a year at the moment, but i'm English. Originally from the North East but go to uni down in Norwich, I went to Wales on a surf trip with the university Sounds like the wetsuit is sweet, enjoy the soon to be freezing northern hemisphere, its beginning to get hot down here

1st off, i'm not a guy so i dont have the board shorts problem...but...I do find that wearing a rashguard under a wetsuit makes it easier to take off when its wet (and your cold). If your not able to fit a rashguard between you and your suit, it may be a bit to small.

a lot of guys I know dont wear anything as far as boxers/board shorts with a winter suit. the "go commando". i guess the thought is to make it easier to change, as well as more manuverability.

I had the same problem with my suit, but I didn't want to go completely nude because I like to take my suit off and rinse it at th showers at the beach before I go to work in the morning. Check this out, it works great and I couldnt be happier. I even wear them under my boardshorts when I don't use a wetsuit and they work great in keeping out the sand etc.

They have thermal ones too which are a little thicker, but I didn't go for those.

Can not stand to wear anything under my suit... just rap a towel around your waist if you need to, then take the suit off, rinse it or do what ever you like....

I wear a boxer briefs and an undershirt. Longjohns if water is super cold.

Wearing something under a wetsuit defeats the purpose.

Board shorts and a rashguard are made for HOT weather where a suit isn't needed.

What I want to know is, where did you get the idea from, some kook gave you the bum scoop!

Check out helo shorts for under your wetsuit. They are a loose fitting compression short. heloclothes.com

i realy just wear my adams-suit... have found anything under the wettie to be kinda uncomfy..
did that in the beginning, when i didnt have a suit myself, i took some realy thin shorts and tried to flatten em out before pulling the suit over my chest... but now, its all comando..

A good solution would be rockin the rash guard on top and some helo shorts on bottom under your wetsuit.

I usually wear compression underwear like so:

It gives additional support for getting up on your board. I tore my groin years ago doing the splits down a skateboarding ramp (The skateboarding equivalent to surfing's bailing hard), so sometimes getting up on my surfboard or playing tennis where I am bending down and getting up bothers me. So the extra support helps me. And also, I can take off my wetsuit without the towel (if I want).
