how to install center fin on a longboard

Postby rrstein82 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:59 am

so i'm trying to install the big fin on a longboard i'm boring, and i can't get it to stop sliding. it's the type of fin that uses a philips screw (rather than the fcs hex). anyone know how to fix this?

What are you saying the fin box is broken or are you asking how to screw a screw in? There should be a small square plate that slides in the bottom of the fin box that has a thread in it. The screw screws into this pulling the fin into the box.

no, i've got the putting in the screw part down, it's just that even when the screw is tight, the fin slides forward and back in the fin box rather than staying tight in the middle.

So, just in case, the fin came along with a screw and a small square nut nut that goes on the screw, correct?

Ok, did you take off the nut? It goes inside the fin box BEFORE you put in the fin. There is a small notch at the center of the fin box that lets you plop it in. Next move it all the way down.

Now, take the fin, put in the T-shaped pin and fit it through the notch you found before, move the fin up until you find a place to put it.

Now that you know where it goes, lift the fin slightly and try to get the nut exactly under where the screw will go down. This is harder than it sounds, you will have to try it 3 or 4 times until you get it right.

What is happening is that the screw is going down but not into the small nut that goes inside the fin box, you are probably tightening on top of it, which leaves it loose. Drove me crazy when putting mine in.
