I prefer this too - I think I will change it.

Lot of wasted space too, at 1280x1024 the actual forum content starts over a 3rd of the way down the page.

I'll have a look at reducing the banner size a bit and getting rid of some of the whitespace.

PapaW wrote:its a little awkward defining between each persons posts. - I think it has to do with the title/author bar (that also has the edit/quite buttons on) being pretty much the same as the default post text...
Previously there was a solid line between each post now it blends together...

Thoughts?

Would a better contrast between the alternate post backgrounds be better? I'll make one of the backgrounds darker to see if this helps.

I am sorry to hear this Billie - I'd hate to lose such a helpful and knowledgeable member because of this change.
The forum has been updated to the latest version of the software as the previous version will shortly no longer be supported. This new version adds new features and better performance.
The colour scheme is straight out of the box - design is not my thing but I thought that it looked ok.

Perhaps you could offer some suggestions to help me out with a better design - improving things for the sites visitors is what this feedback forum is all about.

oh something else while i think of it - when i log in, it never goes directly to the SW forum index page - it logs in to a screen which simply says that you've logged in and then takes a few moments to redirect you to the forum. this is bugging me!!! is there a way of logging in directly to the forum page that i'm missing???

that is a bit annoying, I'll look at redirecting straight back to where you logged in from.

The login redirect has to be done but I have made it do it straight away (as soon as the intermediate page has loaded) so it should be a little quicker. Not a lot else I can do about this at the moment.

OK, the change to the background colour has been made the same as before.

I have added a line under the post author details to make this a bit clearer.

The profile info has been moved to the left hand side.

I have got rid of some of the white space and reduced the size of the top banner and reduced the size of the titles - I think it looks ok at smaller resolutions (my normal screen resolution is 1680x1050 :) )

Yup, "View New Posts" used to include where the thread was sitting - surf chat, general chat, member meetings or whatever.

Glad things are looking a little better. Still have to do these >

Look at "View New Posts" thing
Change link to latest post from author name (thaya)
Remove inline ads for regulars

I think that's all?
