Board transport...

well, im going to buy my car within the next week or two and im not sure how to get a board around... buy a rack for the top of my car or? also im gonna get a shortboard to learn on.. will that fit INSIDE the car? like if i let down my back seat and put the board in the trunk/car...

see im really tired of all the bs with life, gonna get a parttime job and live outta my car/surf all day lol...seems like a great plan so far, will have to see how it works out

Anything under 6'6 as a board will fit in most cars. I had a 6'6 board and I could fit it in my VW Polo by putting the back seat down and have it on its side between the front seats. This still allowed me and a passenger to travel.

I now have a 7'5 mini-mal and it don't fit no more!! Now the wife has to sit in the back and I recline the passenger seat fully, then it fits in no problem.

If you're going for a shortboard, you shouldn't really have any problems. But if you're 6' yourself, you'll need a good 6'8 board!. Mind you it also depends on the car! If you get a bigger saloon/ estate, you'll have no probs.

If you're just starting out I'd look at getting a 7'6 mini-mal or longer, fairly wide and quite thick. I started on a small board 6'4 and I struggled as most surf in this country tends to be small. You will have more fun and progress faster on a bigger board. I can now do more tricks, faster and harder turns on my minimal than I ever managed on my shortboard. Plus it paddles easier, meaning catching waves earlier, which means longer rides!!

i used to put a 7" 9 in the back of a micra no problems. Although gear changing was a little more challenging
