Shortboard or Hybrid?

Postby Rustygirl1 » Sat Aug 23, 2008 1:36 am

I have a 6'10, which I have had for a little while now, which I can surf on resonably well except I just don't feel like i am getting as much fun out of it anymore.
Now i am somewhere beteen the 5'10-5'11 height range and a while ago we found a 6'2 shorboard that looks like it has some life left in it.

I am wondering should I maybe give the shortboard a try, and if so are there any tips for riding it?

go for it, why not? especially if it's a good price. but a weight range in addition to height is helpful as well (as much as girls hate disclosing their weight). a few tips: work on your paddling speed, learn to arch your back really well, and get as much time in the water as possible. good luck. and what shape is the 6'10" board?

the 6'10 board is a millers, which is sort of leaning more towards a mini-mal shape. We actually got the shortboard for free though, it had a few dings in it we managed to fix it.
I am around the 65kg mark, and i thinki should also mention the shortboard is fairly thin...2'and 1 quarter thick.

oh, if it's free and you already have it, just go out and shred it. what are you waiting for? the more time you have with it in the water the better. you should probably be okay on it, float wise. i'm a little bit shorter but about the same weight, and i have a 6'2" that's 2 3/8" thick. and that floats me more than plenty, so i'd think you'd be fine
