Another swell magnet when all alse is flat. Good little fun beach break with lefts and rights and a couple of different spots. A small beach with a rock outcrop in the centre, that can give you a fright if your not told its there. Works best on a NE Swell. Catches all swell directions although it's very dependent on sandbanks. Sometimes a left in front of the surfclub and a small right running into the nearby rip. Peaky lefts and rights down beach. Nthrn End is best.
After a few good days surf in may 2009 the crowds are horrific and the surf is back to inconsistent and badly formed.
From Manly Beach, head Nth 30km along pittwater rd. This road passes just about every one of the excellent breaks on Sydneys Nth Side. 1.5km Nth of Mona Vale, Bungan is one of those breaks that you would miss, if you drove past it. Steep pathways at the middle and Nthrn ends lead down from the highway, to the beach. Take everything you need, with you to the beach. The walk back up is a killer.
Best to base yourself in Manly of Narrabeen. Manly has Backpackers, Hostels, Motels, Pubs etc. Narrabeen has a pretty good van park and is close to a number of Sydney's Northern Beaches famous waves. Good regular bus service up and down the coast also.
Street parking. Surfers usually park on the highway. No beachside parking. Secluded so parking isnt usually an issue.
Some cars have been ripped off due to the distance from the beach.
Theres a board shop in every suburb on the Northern Beaches.. Mona Vale 1.5km away from Bungan is a surfboard factory heaven. CI. Webber. Miller. Tom Carrols Boardroom. +++ many more.
Heaps.
Palm beach, Manly
Bungans a swell magnet but your in gods country now. There are pubs, clubs, views, buses, the city, shopping +++ much, much more.
Bungan has no shops but is quite close to mona vale and newport.
