Three days before the start of the 2012 Rip Curl Pro Mentawai, six of Indonesia's best surfers took off for Macaronis ahead of schedule and discovered the benefits of being early. Garut Widiarta, Raditya Rondi, Mega Semadhi, Putra Hermawan, Darmaputra Tonjo and Gobleg Suyadnya boarded the Indies Explorer in Padang, Sumatra and made the overnight crossing to surfing's promised land, looking to sneak in a few cracks before the rest of the field of 64 surfers arrived for the comp.   What an awesome surf charter we had for the Ripcurl Pro Mentawai 2012.
  An awesome bunch of guys aboard the amazing completely refurbished surf charter boat The Indies Explorer. A great time was had by all and the level of surfing was definitely highly professional. The guys ripped it up!!!!!
  Well done to Lee Wilson and Garut for their 1st and 2nd places, you guys really tore it apart and you both deserve a spot on the world pro tour.
  Thank you to ibu Desti, the tourism director for the Mentawai, you did a great job and what a beautiful person. Thanks Desti. Also thanks goes out to all the Ripcurl staff, all photographers and magazine guys you are a bunch of absolute LEGENDS. Cheers to all. YEEW!!!! GET IN THE GREEN ROOM
