What started as a sleeping Western Atlantic at the end of January quickly developed into 50 foot seas, slamming into the coast of Norway. And while wind speeds for the Nords topped the 100mph mark, the size of the storm was so big, it ended up sending waves to the majority of western Europe too.
Most of Norway ended up being a write off, despite the hardy missions of some surfers in the area. Norwegian surfer Olaf Kielland had a rock blown through his car window for the effort. Looking further south, it was the likes of France and Portugal that would see the best of this crazy swell.
If you’ve ever wondered how a Norway-bound swell fills into Portugal, hit play above.
