Black Kite Accessories

As any traveling surfer knows, space is of a premium. It's great to see that there are some travel accessories around that are designed for surfers, trekkers and other sports enthusiasts who need to travel light and with effective gear.

Black Kite products (www.blackkite.co.uk) have been developed using a combination of cutting edge textile technology and natural extracts to deliver an innovative, high performance product range for all outdoor enthusiasts - surfers included. The Black Kite range currently consists of four products, three of which we got to take a look at.

Fast Dry Towel: Perhaps the most useful of the three products for the average surfer. This compact towel will replace your bulky beach towel and practically fits into your back pocket. It it approximately 125x75cm and weights less than 150g when dry. Check out the picture on the left here to see just how small the towel packs up to.

It's light, ultra-absorbent and will dry a large adult. It is also quick drying so you are not lugging a wet towel around post surf. This is one product that every surfer can use and will be a fixture in my board bag, just compare it to your regular beach towel - it costs less, weights less and takes up less room. Why would you not want one?

Foaming Fast Wash Cloths: These are single use wash cloths that foam when the cloth is made wet and massaged, releasing a rich cleansing lather for washing face and body. These cloths are preservative free and contain coconut extract and seaweed. They also have a nice fragrance. More good news for the surfer - they can be used with salt water as well as fresh so nice and handy for the beach.

Deo Foot Wipes: These are a real essential if you are on a surf trip, stuck in a van and everyone has been surfing in booties all day. A quick wipe with these minty fresh wipes and the pegs can come off the noses! We tried out these following a training run and they are really nice and refreshing. Great for where a shower is not possible.

All the products we looked at have a place in your surf bag. Hygiene products might not be the first thing that gets packed but now it is easy to make sure you don't have to be hosed down on return from a weekender up the coast. Good work Black Kite!
