Can anyone recommend a UK shaper.........

Postby pat42 » Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:31 pm

I've got an old 6'3 that's battered to f**k. I surf really well on it, but it's seen better days. I want to know what would be cheaper; to get someone to totally copy this board and build from scratch or is it possible to take all the glass off and re-glass it???

Recommended uk shaper - Matt Barrow, Newquay.

I think you should not use the exact old shape, but get a modern one based on the old one. Have a chat to Matt who is a really nice guy and go to see him with your current board and he will probably lend you one of his boards to try out to see if you get on with it. He will be able to shape you a great board.

I have used one of his boards and it rocked. I had already ordered a couple from Lost or I would have got one of Matt's boards. Next board I get will be a Matt Barrow.

His shop is Factory 52, Newquay (http://www.factory52.com/store/) and he has a factory in Devon I think.

I also wondered what anybody thought of CheekeeMonkee surfboards?
Are they polyester or epoxy?

Ok who do you recommend?
And just out of curiosity what made you go to a shaper down south if you live in Yorkshire?
Was it that the shaper had a good reputation, or that northern shapers aren't as good?
Cheers

The paddle board has been cut down now Ben and the 2 halfs are now in the shack awaiting the attentions of the electric planer sometime in the new year!
Oh and on another note the xmas bonus came in so the only uncertainty with regards to may/june is my knee and when the operation will be.
