Waves at last!

Postby Broosta » Thu Nov 08, 2007 10:57 pm

Should be a wave at my local in the morning(Gorleston). Magic Seaweed is giving it 14ft with 11secs :D .... and 35mph cross shore winds :( ! But with the harbour wall sheltering it could be ok.

Local news is saying loads of houses are being evacuated in fear of being flooded due to impeding storm surge with the spring tide. I'm alright 'cos I bought my house at the top of the high ground and it was deliberate and for this very reason. Some say this may out do the floods of '53 http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/understanding/1953_flood.shtml.

See you on the other side dudes - I haven't been in the water for 5weeks so could get hairy!

Just checked it out and its about 3-4ft and clean with 5 people in the water. high tide not til 08:20.
Sky news are down there and the police are advising everyone to get away from the beach cos a big surge is on its way down from the north.
I'm now getting suited up! :D

Broosta we've had quite a bit of late and surfable since last Thursday.

Enjoy it.

Deep shelter required up here tho, and i can't get back on it till Sunday. But i did get in on Weds.

Be safe folks - they're talking hurricane force winds in the area. Best to wait until the swell cleans up a bit and the storm moves more offshore towards the nordic lands.

It was not bad really. More like 3ft with the odd bigger random wave popping up.
Bit strange having so many spectaters and 2 helecopters taking footage, even had a Pit Pilot photographer turn up with Sam Smart from Sennen to test the waves but it was a shame they got in too late after the tide had gone out too far and it turned to sh*t like it normally does at Gorleston!

The Sky News team vehicles.

A bit of one of the larger waves taken by my g/f and she doesn't surf! I was in the water for the best waves so didn't get any good shots really.

Yorks pretty much maxed out today by all accounts, apart from deep shelter.

Middens up your way SS was sposed to be of size n clean.

Did anyone see the surfers stranded on the news down in Kent.

These phptos were taken at Gorleston near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. And the beach faces east so the swell has to wrap around about 100 degrees to get round the harbour wall meaning its always the smallest and cleanest spot on this coast that never has a rip. So I reckon probably everywhere else would have been loads bigger but perhaps not so clean with a hell rip going south.

Yeah it was a bit chilly actually! Last time I got in I wore a 3mm suit no and no gloves, but yesterday it was 5/4/3mm with 5mm boots and no gloves but I'll be wearing gloves from now on since my hands got a bit cold with that 'can't straighten fingers' thing going on :P .
