double paddle? both arms at once.

When first learning to surf I was told as soon as the wave starts to pick the board up and tip you forward change from paddling one two, one two, and to dig in hard with both arms at once to stop the nose going under, and raise your chest off the board. This worked really well and stopped the dredded nose dive.

I don't think it works as well on short boards as it does fun boards or longboards, due to the rapid weight transfer of throwing both arms forward at the same time, which tends to push the nose under.

So do you double paddle, and if so what board are you on??

As a rule, no... BUT, I have been known to go the odd two handed paddle if I'm really really struggling to get down the face of a wave, and avoid missing it completely... It doesn't usually work though.

i do sometimes on bigger days, the butterfly swim technique is the fastest so wh y not do it on a surfboard to paddle quicker? makes sense...
