cursed injuries!!!

Postby Jimi » Sun Nov 04, 2007 11:33 am

Why do surf injuries always happen on really small days????

Just this afternoon I had my right cheek (think face, not other) split by the tip of a shortboard after its rider lost control and fell off, shooting the board right into my face... Now I have a (nicely) swollen right cheek with a little slice out of it (not enough to need stitches).

This is the first painful injury i've got in the surf, and it happened on a day when the waves were almost too small to ride... so disappointing.

Has anyone else noticed how most injuries happen on small days? (Except obviously for the really big days which just cause havoc).

Sounds nasty.
But, You think that sucks, try breaking your little finger, having an operation on it, to get pins inserted, and not being able to surf till January.
Did it on a longboard, got my finger caught in the leash. (Its always the leash  )
Left little finger (the stupidest place to break a bone!!!!)
Its a good job we havnt had much surf around for a while, or id be crying

Sorry, that wasnt very sympathetic was it?
But you cant beat a good injury story. At least when its to someone else.

Yup, small yesterday but I managed to faceplant beautifully, and it was only luck that prevented injury...

I've done exactly the same thing - but the one next to my little finger. Bent it so it was flat against the back of my hand. Hurt like hell, and it doesn't work properly now. Had to gaffer tape it up, to paddle back out.

probably as there are more people out in the water who cant control their boards on small days

I always prefer surfing in small conditions anyways

Haven't surfed in six months due to doing my crucitate on hols, depressing but at least it was the summer, missed sept and oct though(best surf in ireland cause water is still, well not freezing). Was out last week looking like a plank with my knee suppport on over my wetsuit(great to be out again though and surprisly i hadn't forgotten everything). First wave of the day and someone wiped out in front me and i got a bic stick full force on the adams apple, surfed on of course. When i tried to take suit and hood off i was puking up all over the place,it was agony talking and swallowing food was near impossible for the first few days, a funny injury... happen to anyone else???
