Surfing Sydney - and so it begins...

Hello! Long time no post. Been a bit busy....
And Ive only got a crappy dial up connection too which doesnt help.

So Ive been in sydney a week now, recovered from jetlag, started work... about time I got surfing. So I went into a shop, to maybe look at a second hand board, have a browse, that kinda thing.

Two hours later I leave with a brand new Simon Anderson 6'3 quad that I fell in love with. Expensive things, surf shops....


Ooh, but she's lovely.

So out on it for the first time today. I havent got a van yet, so limited to where I can get to, but Bondi is a five minute walk down the road. Not the best place to be surfing on a sunny sunday, but the crowds werent too bad. Surf was small but clean, sun was out, water was warm

I didnt get many on the new board, but the ones I did..... whoa boy.... its one fast board. Gonna have to step up my game. But it paddles oh so easily and is a greedy little wave magnet

I learnt to surf in OZ and NZ and took for the granted the warm weather and clean surf! Back the Uk i realise just how different things are, travelling 2 hours to the coash for a sesh instead of walking out of my bungalo onto the beach and into perfect seas! Only 3 months and i'll be back out in Oz for my one year work visa
After the Uk i know you wont take it for granted, love every minute of it!

just got back from a weekend surfing with chris libby sar timo and his mate, was an amazing weekend, chris even wanted to get free tickets but we have no idea what they were for

At the very least you've gotta get down to Maroubra instead!

I'll be surfing all next week in Yamba/Angourie (North coast NSW), but when I get back I'm so keen for a surf to show you Cronulla properly this time!

How soon will you expect a van-mobile? Seriously, within 1 hour either side of Sydney you're in for a lot of surfing potential, so get exploring!

I find Google maps invaluable for finding interesting places to check out!

I'm hopefully sorting out an apartment this week, and then the next priority is getting a van, so then I'll be properly exploring.

If you're at Centenary, I can drop by Manning Bar on my way back from the city at around 5.30 either tomorrow or friday... but can't stay out late... the girlfriend... you know how it is

Am flying with emerates, had a look on there web site and couldn't see any thing about surf boards

A realy good 3/2 will be $250 or so I guess, top of the line mebe $400

In the summer the most you need is a spring suit other wise its just shorts !

av been looking at the map of Oz cant get to grips with the scale, how long would it take me to drive from brisban to surfers paradise or the nearest surf spot???

Do they run surf trips from brisban?

From Brisbane it would take you 40mins by car to get to a beach , in reality it will take you 1 1/2 to get to a decent break because Surfers Paradise is absolutely rubbish for Surfing !!!.
IF you head south the best breaks are snapper, the Gap and D bar but they are so over crowded ! .I would rank them as some of the most dangerous breaks there are due to the crazy amount of surfers.
Your best bet is to go even further south !
If you head north there are some more options Dickie beach is good. But the best spot I have found so far is the yellow patch off the Northern tip of Moreton Island , The waves are unreal and you will be lucky to see another surfer but as ever its a natioanl park so you have to be careful with the local wildlife and its a mission to get over there !
