Surfing statistics

Postby surfer5000 » Mon Oct 29, 2007 3:45 am

Hi Everybody!,
I am doing an engineering project on fin design, and just looking for some simple statistics to start off my presentation. i'm having trouble getting any cause any searches on the net to do with surfing and statistics are as you would imagine related to web surfing.

The 2 statistics i'm looking for are:
1) What percentage or how many people surf in the world
2) what rate surfing as a sport is growing.

I don't suppose the "world stormrider guide" tells you straight off any of these statistics, i dont have a copy?

I would be most thankful for any help you can give.

Cheers,
Ros

Maybe my urgency didn't come across, my presentation is on Wednesday, i don't have the time to get a copy i was wondering if anyone could furnish me with the information.

obviously i know where to buy a book.

the statistics don't have to be accurate its only as a way to open my presentation. if ya know em let me know.

Cheers

Hmmm not very good at searching are you? One google search yielded some answers.

Might i suggest you don't leave it so late next time and that you think a bit more with regards to your search tags?

cheers KS,
that's perfect.

No need to get personal all the same, on my defence i am usually quite resourceful when it comes to searching just didn't get lucky this time, as for leaving it late, i didn't, the presentation is fully written, i thought it would be a nice way to open the presentation, but only thought of it 2 days ago.

& now thanks to you i have the information, so i was still as resourceful as ever.

Thanks a million,
Ros.

I don't actually think there ARE any definitive figures for 'surfers' - as most of the 'big' surf companies are still partnerships or sole traders, so don't have to make accounts public - hence no-one REALLY knows how many wetsuits, boards, etc are sold each year......

But there are some good guesstimates out there.........
